The Burra Call

Working Bee

Thanks to all that helped out with the work around the club. The club rooms have a fresh coat of paint and the holes under the nets have been repaired.  The fiths now have a history board , premiership memorabilia is up and other general clean ups and improvements have been made. Too many individuals to mention, a great effort from all.

Unfortunately bad weather has held up the repairs to the matting in the nets although we hope to have this completed soon.

Congratulations

Glenn Tucker has popped the question and received the affirmative from partner Lynn. We wish you both all the best for the future.

Whats Cooking

Pictured left , Adds Mather is bringing gourmet cuisine to Skye, OK its not  gourmet but it is food. Building on the success of Hydey’s Pies and Dimmys from last year Adds has cleaned  repaired and fired up the deep fryer and is offering up a delicious selection of new treats. On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights seniors will now be able to enjoy hot chips, battered flake, calamari, spring rolls, spicy chicken pieces Dim Sims and of course Adams witty banter!

Memorable Moments

Ricky Ponting and Shaun Pollock.

After going past the outside edge
with a couple of sharp deliveries, Pollock told Ponting: "It's red, round and weighs about five ounces." Unfortunately for Pollock, the next ball was Hammered out of the ground. Ponting to Pollock: "It appears you know what it looks like, now go find it."

Senior Player Interview — LUKE RAYMOND

How long have you played at Skye? I started in the under under 12's, about 14 years ago. Wardy, Dixy and myself are the only players left from the clubs first ever junior side.

What has changed in that time? A lot has changed since under 12's. Firstly, the club has grown on and off the field, due mostly to the hard work that the committee's of the past have put in. Dixy is a lot greyer than he was back then (I think his grey hair started coming through in under 14's) and Oaksy's mullet has disappeared.

What have been the highlights? Defiantly the biggest highlight was being a part of the second's premiership team of a couple of years back. I was very lucky to be a part of the team and wouldn't take it back for anything. As for other highlights, probably seeing Smally crack a ton and win the game for us against the ladder-leading Frankston Bombers a couple of years back - he was unstoppable that day; seeing Greeny's straight drive, down the hill, with the wind at Tootgarook - that was also special.

Are you looking forward to this year? Yes, I am. I won't be training that much, with work commitments and all that, but I'm looking forward to improving my game, whilst having a good time with some of my good mates. The firsts have a good team on paper, so it will be good following their success. I'm also looking forward to the usual antics of some of the club clowns.

You went over with to England with Dorra and Dixy a couple of years back, I bet that provided some highlights. You bet it did. I have two favourites and they both involve Dorra.

The first one involved a 40 year old  Indonesian lady called Yetti who we worked worked. Yetti liked big, hairy men and as a result, loved Dorra. She would constantly flirt with him and yell out things at the top of her lungs like - 'Cameron, why you so shy, come over here and play with me' and 'I like the Big One (referring to Dorra ).  I'm not sure if anything happened between Dorra and our co-worker Yeti, but needless to say, she was a bit upset when he had to leave.

The second one involved a Jamaican bar in Oxford. After about 8 hours of drinking and a couple of kebabs, Dorra, Dixy and myself followed a couple of Irish girls to a Jamaican bar. As we soon found out, we were the only white people in the place. One of the Irish girls, who looked a lot like Boy George, was trying her (or his?) hardest on Dixy without much success and Dorra was left without a Partner. Not to worry, Boy George's blonde, Irish friend was coming along for Dorra in a half an hour. The problem was that it was about 5 or 6 in the morning and Dorra was starting to nod off, but the thought of Boy George's blonde, Irish friend kept him going. When she arrived, she sat next to Dorra and started up a conversation. It was all looking good for Dorra, until he started nodding off. He tried to fight the sandman, but he lost the fight - about 15 minutes after she arrived, he was asleep on her shoulder and, needless to say, she wasn't impressed.

I here that Darren Okley wanted to kill you a couple of year ago because you put a little bit of shaving cream on his car. Is this true? Yes it is true. I respect the man a great deal, but I think he over reacted a bit. I do understand where he was coming from, it was his second most prized possession. Imagine if I did something his most prized possession at the time, his mullet. I wouldn't be here doing this interview.

Who do expect will pull the most money at the upcoming player auction? There will be a few close ones. I think that Mick and Morry are neck and neck at the moment, followed closely by Birdie. I heard a rumour the other day that Dorra's mum might be attending - if that's the case, you would have to go with Dorra wouldn't you? All I know if that if Frizza could bid for himself, would could build new clubrooms with the proceeds. It should be a good night who ever gets the most money.

You got locked up on a trip away a couple of years back. What happened there? Sorry Burra call, I can't comment on that at the moment. The matter is going through to Appeal in the Supreme Court in the next couple of weeks. I can say, however, that I really appreciate all that Craig Small did in trying to get me out of the situation.
